My Saline Arrived Frozen — What Should I Do?Updated a day ago
Freezing in transit is a known and common challenge with saline—especially during Canadian winters. We completely understand how disappointing this can be, and we want to help clarify what to expect and how to minimize the risk.
📦 Why Saline Might Freeze in Transit
While saline is packaged securely, prolonged exposure to subzero temperatures, particularly when parcels are left outdoors or in vehicles, can cause the fluid to freeze. This can happen during the last-mile delivery stage or while sitting on a cold doorstep.
🚚 What You Can Do to Prevent Freezing
Most cases of frozen saline occur when the package is left unattended outdoors after delivery. To help ensure the product stays safe:
- Monitor your tracking closely. You’ll receive an email with tracking details as soon as your order ships.
- Opt into SMS tracking notifications at checkout for real-time delivery updates.
- Be home for delivery, or consider shipping to a business address that receives mail during business hours.
- If you'd prefer your order not be left at your door, you may request signature required in the order comments at checkout. This can result in the parcel being held at a nearby depot for pickup.
🚫 While we occasionally use “Temperature Sensitive” handling notes, adding visible freeze warnings may increase delivery delays as couriers sometimes hold these items back from regular routes. For this reason, we focus on helping customers retrieve their parcels quickly instead.
🚗 What If Saline Freezes After Delivery or in My Vehicle?
If your saline arrives frozen—or freezes later while being stored in a cold location—please note that this is not uncommon during the winter months. Many first responders and traveling midwives encounter this issue regularly due to fluctuating temperatures in vehicles or outdoor deliveries.
- Let it defrost naturally at room temperature.
- Do not attempt to artificially heat saline quickly, as this may compromise its integrity.
